Surprise: A Service of Christmas

Kent Mayfield, UUFD Minister

Christmas come to us, and as always, it comes just when we need it most.

Just when clear nights are sending the mercury down

And when cloudy days bring the snow shawling out of the skies.

Christmas comes: when the nights are longest,

And the long, worn year just about worn out.

Then Christmas comes, as old as memory, as fragile as an ornament,

As familiar as the words of its carols and stories,

And yet, somehow, always new, untried and shining. (from Max Coots)
