“Better Angels: Reuniting America” – Tuesday, October 1, 6-8pm, Dubuque Carnegie Stout Library. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Dubuque. FREE. Documentary film follows an equal number of Democrats and Republicans as they move through the Better Angels’ signature “Red/Blue” workshop, from initial skepticism to more profound understanding and empathy for people holding opposing views.
Background: So many Americans have become alarmed about the political antagonisms splintering our nation. A grassroots movement, “Better Angels,” has been formed to bridge the widening gulf between “Reds” and “Blues.” It spans the country and is dedicated to bringing together people with differing views to listen and learn from one another and have civil conversations again. Directed by Emmy-winner Jim Brown and produced by Peter Yarrow of the legendary trio Peter, Paul & Mary. The term Better-Angels was taken from Abraham Lincoln’s 1861 inaugural address when he appealed to the better angels of our nature to heal the mounting tension throughout our nation. More information:
