About Us, Mission, & Covenant
Mission
Our mission is to provide a welcoming community that inspires growth by encouraging individuals and families to examine their religious and spiritual beliefs, to explore new ideas, to share our journeys, to respect and enjoy each other’s differences, and to be active and supportive in the community that surrounds us.
About Us
We are brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers. We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history and spirituality, but aligned in our desire to make a difference for the good. We have a track record of standing on the side of love, justice, and peace.
We have radical roots and a history as self-motivated spiritual people: we think for ourselves and recognize that life experience influences our beliefs more than anything.
We need not think alike to love alike. We are people of many beliefs and backgrounds: people with a religious background, people with none, people who believe in a God, people who don’t, and people who let the mystery be.
We are Unitarian Universalist and Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, atheist and agnostic, believers in God, and more.
On the forefront of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer inclusion for more than 40 years, we are people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
We welcome you: your whole self, with all your truths and your doubts, your worries and your hopes. Join us on this extraordinary adventure of faith. Get involved!
Covenant of Good Relations
We, the members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Dubuque, make a commitment to foster a warm, safe, energetic community and to create an environment where we treat each other well.
We welcome all who enter and agree that being a community means respecting and caring about each other in life transitions and crises. We celebrate our community by communicating with respect, attention and light-hearted kindness. We serve by helping others make choices that honor both their needs and the needs of the community.
We commit to nurturing healthy relationships by taking responsibility for our own imperfections, extending grace to others, and actively seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. In doing so, we strengthen our bonds and build a caring community.
